The Worship Service
You may join any Sunday and at any service you choose. You may choose to join as part of a larger group during a Membership Sunday or on another Sunday that would work better for you and your family. The Pastor will issue an invitation to join the church, usually directly before the singing of the last hymn (refer to the worship bulletin). You will join the ministers at the altar and respond to the vows of membership. At the end of the service, the congregation will welcome you into the church family.
Vows of Membership
You will be asked if you profess your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You will also be asked to uphold Northside United Methodist Church with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service.
Methods of Joining
Are you currently a member of another United Methodist Church?
If so, you will simply transfer your membership to Northside United Methodist Church. When we receive the name and address of this church, our church office staff will request a transfer to Northside.
Are you currently a member of another denomination?
If so, you will transfer your membership to Northside United Methodist Church. When we receive the name and address of this church, our church office staff will request a transfer to Northside. The United Methodist Church honors baptisms from all denominations, and so, new members will not be baptized again. Should you desire to renew your Baptism, we have a special worship ritual for that, called, “Renewal of the Baptismal Covenant.”
Are you joining a church for the first time and have already been baptized?
You will be joining by profession of your faith in Christ.
Are you joining a church for the first time and have never been baptized?
You will be baptized, as part of the worship service or in a time of worship in the Chapel. You will then join by profession of faith during the worship service.
Welcome Packet
You will receive a packet of information highlighting various ministries within the church and different ways that you can fulfill your vow to uphold Northside United Methodist Church with your prayers, presence, gifts and service. Please read this information, and should you have any questions about any ministries or opportunities in the church, please contact Rev. Jeanette Dickens, Discipleship Pastor, 404-355-6475. In addition, we would like to take your picture taken following the service in which you join.
New Member Lunch
A luncheon honoring our newest members is held four times a year on Membership Sunday following the 11:00 worship service. Its purpose is to welcome you into the life of this community of faith and to help you meet others friends who are joining at the same time. This is held in the Board Room, on the second floor.
After You Join
Once you become a member of Northside United Methodist Church, you will want to find a place to grow spiritually and to serve as you live out your life as a disciple of Jesus Christ by:
- Sharing in worship regularly
- Becoming part of one of our Small Groups, which focuses on building new friendships and growing spiritually in an informal setting
- Finding a place to serve in the church or with the church
- Being faithful in giving
New Members Classes
The best way to become a follower of Christ as a member of Northside United Methodist Church is through attending our New Members Classes, which will take place 3 or 4 times a year.
These informal group gatherings provide you with a helpful orientation to the life and ministry of the church. They are also a wonderful way to make new friends who will be joining our church on the same New Member Sunday or have recently joined since the last New Member Sunday.
