A Fun Place to Play and Learn
Northside Methodist Preschool is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.
About Our School:
Northside Methodist Preschool was founded in 1958 by parents of Northside United Methodist Church. The preschool has been open continuously since that time. We are a part-day preschool for children ages 12 months to five years old, of any race, gender, national or ethnic origin. We became accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children in 1992. We are a well-regarded preschool with a waiting list of applicants. Throughout the history of our preschool we have been blessed by the support of Northside United Methodist Church and we are an important ministry of the church.
Our Philosophy:
Northside Methodist Preschool is a caring community in which staff and families work together to nourish each child's faith in God and model the importance of showing compassion and caring for one another. We strive to create an atmosphere of trust and cooperation in which to promote each child's growth in the areas of intellectual, social/emotional, spiritual, physical, and creative development. We encourage children's fascination with learning and guide them to understand the world more fully through experiences and interactions with others.
Curriculum:
Our curriculum is designed to complement the developmental stage of each child. Cognitive skills, language development, math skills, fine and gross motor skills, social interactions, and emotional and spiritual growth are the areas of emphasis in our curriculum. Using The Creative Curriculum as a guide for our teachers, we focus on developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.
Our Special Classes:
In addition to our regular curriculum in the classroom, children receive special instruction from trained teachers in Art, Music, Creative Movement, and Spanish.
Parent Involvement:
Parents serve in a variety of leadership positions in our school. Parents serve on the Board of Directors and on the Parents’ Council. Parents take active roles in fundraising for the school. Parents are also invited into the classrooms to volunteer in many ways. Room Parents coordinate special events in the classrooms with the teachers and children are always thrilled when one of their parents shows up as a “Mystery Reader”.
Fundraising:
Parents and friends of the preschool support our school through several fundraising efforts. The Annual Fund brings in donations to the preschool to enhance curriculum in order to provide our faculty and students with an abundance of hands-on materials that will stimulate and challenge their learning experience.
