Receptionist

Full-Time Administration 40 Hours

Supervisor: Executive Director

Work Week: Monday-Friday

Objective The Receptionist performs various administrative duties on behalf of the Executive Director, Senior Pastor, and the church staff. Primarily this position serves as the receptionist - located at the main reception desk in the gallery. The receptionist receives guests, directs them to the appropriate locations, and assists them with connecting to the appropriate department. This position receives incoming phone calls, and serves as a communication hub, responding to inquiries by members, guests and staff with accurate information. This role manages all package and mail deliveries. This role performs an important security function for the daily operation of the church by monitoring CCTV cameras, and by being alert and responsive when security protocols need to be implemented. This role also assumes other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge

  • Possesses an understanding of United Methodist beliefs, doctrines, disciplines, traditions and organizational structure and social principles. 

  • Understands the unique culture and values of Northside Church; is able to articulate and support the mission and direction of the church; demonstrates this mission in words and deeds. 

  • Is familiar with best practices of office management principles, methods, machines and procedures, and implements these best practices to complete work assignments. 

  • Applies appropriate standards to ensure a positive hospitality experience for all guests. 

  • Has a working knowledge of computers and programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel. 

  • Possesses an aptitude for learning and helping NUMC to achieve excellence in the area of security with the operation of the Avigilon Camera and Security Systems. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Manage the phone system, answer phone, screen and direct calls to appropriate staff while maintaining a positive and helpful attitude and demeanor; review, respond, and redirect church voice mail messages to appropriate staff; place telephone calls for staff as requested 

  • Receives, greets, screens, and directs guests to the appropriate staff, services, or departments; answers general reference questions 

  • Monitors security cameras on outside entrances and initiates security measures as needed. 

  • Receives and signs for deliveries; notifies appropriate recipients of arrival of shipments, and arranges with facilities team the delivery of heavy packages to departments. 

  • Effectively communicates with staff, members, vendors, guests, and service technicians to conduct the daily business of the church. 

  • Maintains familiarity with the church calendar, Northside website, bulletins, newsletters, and staffing, and uses this information to answer inquiries about upcoming events and directs people to the appropriate contact person. 

  • Performs other related tasks as requested by the Executive Director or Senior Pastor 

 Skills and Qualifications 

  • Strong growing faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to sharing this faith with others 

  • Ministry-minded with a desire to serve and a commitment to the church and its growth 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and supply management skills

  • Flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to set priorities are critical attributes

  • Ability to handle complaints and problems with tact, patience and diplomacy

  • Able to protect confidential and sensitive information discreetly according to church protocol

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs – Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Willing to learn to monitor surveillance cameras and learn and initiate appropriate security procedures.

  • Able to operate standard office machines

  • Maintains a valid driver’s license

Education and Experience 

  • High school diploma and at least two years of administrative office experience 

  • Combination of education and experience commensurate with minimum requirements of the position 

  • Ideally, has three to five years of experience in a church or non-profit environment, and a certificate, or an Associate’ Degree from a community college or vocational college in office management

Student Ministry Director

Northside is a growing, 5,000+ member congregation in the Buckhead community of Atlanta, Georgia. We are seeking a full-time Director of Student Ministry for 6th-12th grades. Qualified candidates should possess a passion for making Christian disciples while integrating youth into a multigenerational community of faith. We are seeking a dynamic, self-starter who is a team player with managerial skills who can engage students, involve parents, and empower staff. Objective

This position is responsible for building a nurturing environment where youth and young adults from 6th – 12th grade learn and grow in God’s love. This person is responsible for the development and implementation of a robust educational and discipleship ministry.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the United Methodist Church beliefs, doctrines, discipline, traditions, and social principles.

  • Knowledge of the culture and values of Northside Church, articulates and supports its mission and direction; and demonstrates through words and actions the love of God

  • Knowledge of how to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement effective student programs implementing fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities

  • Knowledge of the UMC Safe Sanctuary principals and guidelines 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Christian education programs for students, 6th – 12th grades according to the Student Ministry’s vision and mission statement

  • Work closely with church leaders (including staff, lay leaders, and ministry leadership teams) to ensure successful implementation of goals to develop a sustainable student ministry

  • Energize youth in middle school and high school to develop their personal relationship with Jesus by gathering together with other Christian youth in fellowship, by studying scripture in small groups, and in serving others

  • Work with the Director of Children’s Ministries to encourage attainment and celebration of faith formation milestones, including a strong transition for fifth graders into the middle school ministry

  • Work with the Children’s Ministry Pastor and Adult Discipleship to coordinate discipleship and Christian Education experiences during the Sunday School hour. Responsible for selection of curriculum and teachers for youth experiences

  • Support graduating seniors by connecting them with college ministers and Wesley Foundations

  • Create effective channels of communication including social media and other online tools between youth, parents, and the congregation around student ministry developments and publish all activities through newsletters, bulletins, and church calendar as needed

  • Effectively communicate with student ministry volunteers through regular text messages, phone calls, emails, postcards, etc., to promote a sense of value and encourage continued involvement

  • Connect youth with spiritual mentors to foster one-on-one and group relationships with youth outside of church functions such as breakfast or lunch, sports events, extracurricular activities, concerts, or any activity in which youth may be involved

  • Minister to the needs of youth in a safe, trusted place where they are comfortable asking for help and spiritual guidance

  • Oversee the Confirmation process by engaging pastoral and lay leadership

  • Participate in planning church wide opportunities for engaging youth and their families in student ministry, worship, music ministry, service, mission trips, camps and conferences

  • Coordinate and organize events throughout the year that focus on spiritual formation, fellowship, and outreach like retreats, conferences, and mission trips

  • Recruit, train, nurture and equip adult leaders and students to support the Student Ministry and to become active in the church community

  • Work cooperatively with other local churches and student ministry leaders to develop inter-church and interdenominational relationships

  • Develop and manage a ministry budget for the year

  • Inform college students and their parents about United Methodist scholarship and loan programs

  • Innovate new approaches that will connect youth to the larger church community through worship, study, fellowship and service opportunities

  • Plan and execute the Metro Atlanta Project with the Missions Director

  • Support and supervise the Student Ministry staff

  • Performs other related tasks as requested by the Associate Pastor of Church Growth, Executive Director or Senior Pastor

Skills and Qualifications

  • Possess a solid theology of student ministry, specifically in the areas of evangelism, discipleship, and leadership

  • Strong knowledge of scripture and ability to communicate Biblical truths to all ages

  • Ability to identify materials and curriculum consistent with the needs of the student ministry

  • Ability to vision cast and articulate a discipleship strategy for students.

  • Ability to teach in a youth context

  • Highly energetic and committed to student ministry

  • Excellent people and communication skills across multi-generations

  • Familiarity and comfortability with social media tools to facilitate communication with youth and families

  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED training

  • Must have valid driver’s license

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, a degree in Student Ministry, Theological, or Biblical Studies is preferred

  • 3 – 5 years of experience in a Christian educational

  • or; combination of education and experience commensurate with the minimum requirements of this position

  • Experienced in ministering to teenage students and a passion for student evangelism/discipleship

  • Trained in Christian student ministry or seminary experience
