Here at Northside we feel that missions outreach is an opportunity to serve others and in doing so grow spiritually as a congregation. Our service opportunities focus primarily on basic needs in the areas of housing and hunger in underserved communities of metro Atlanta.
Northside Church now has a trained Early Response Team (ERT)! An ERT consists of 7–10, UMCOR-certified people who travel to disaster areas and provide the caring presence of the church to survivors. They serve as needed by taking steps to prevent further damage, managing donated materials, and gathering information on survivors’ needs to then report to local operations.
Missions outreach is an opportunity to serve others, not just around the world, but also right here in the community. Northside is committed to mobilizing support for the homeless, at-risk youth, neighborhood revitalization, and general relief programs, through an array of ministries, including Metro Atlanta Project, Murphy-Harpst, Habitat for Humanity, United Methodist Children’s Home, and Action Ministries.
Missions opportunities at Northside span a wide array of foci, but its primary focus is on meeting the basic needs of those in undeserved communities, both in metro Atlanta and abroad. One of those basic needs is hunger, and we partner with Agape Atlanta, Buckhead Christian Ministries, Friends of Refugees, Food Security for America, and PAWKids to ensure the empowerment and support of families in need.
The Metro Atlanta Project is a weeklong, student-led, adult-supported annual service project dedicated to serving the community through roofing projects, playground construction, and general home repair for those in desperate need. Founded in 1999, this year saw 5,000 total hours of work on 14 different sites and 125 students building community through daily worship and self-sacrifice. We also have Fall and Spring MAP, which are one day service projects generally open to all ages.
At Northside, our mission and belief is that God calls us to go out into the world to serve others, and part of that is supporting global missionaries who seek to transform lives and aid those in need. We currently support missionaries stationed around the world, from The Bahamas and Budapest to Nicaragua and the Ukraine.
