Northside Church is a place where you can find community, a place you can call home. But home is not a place created instantaneously; rather, through worship, study, and service, relationships are built and strengthened, allowing us to transcend community and become a family fostered by faith.

Listed below you’ll find overviews of all the programs offered by Northside. We have been called “the biggest little church” in the area because our community is made up of a wide variety of small, intimate groups. This is true in all our ministry departments, from children’s Sunday schools to youth disciple groups, adult study classes to prayer teams, and from mission gatherings to choirs.

4th & 5th Grade Special Events

Are you a 4th or 5th grader who loves to fellowship with kids your own age? We have a special Children’s Ministry program just for you! We get together once a month for fun, fellowship, food, and more. Past programs include: Stone Mountain Laser show, indoor rock climbing, dinner and movie night, and an overnight retreat. We also participate in mission and outreach programs.

Adult Choirs

Adult choirs are open to all who love to sing and lead worship through song! Our Chancel Choir leads weekly hymns and music during the 11:00AM Traditional service. Festival Choir is another great ensemble open to anyone who would like to participate in the annual Festival of Carols and the Lenten Music Celebration. Come lift your voice with us and experience worship from a musical perspective! All are welcome.

Adult Handbells

Looking for a fun, yet meaningful small group? The Adult Bell Choir is the place for you to use your talents and build strong relationships serving God and making new friends. No previous experience is required, but the ability to read music is helpful. The Adult Bell Choir participates in worship approximately every six weeks throughout the school year, and especially on Easter Sunday!

Adult Sunday Studies

We have various Sunday School classes that tackle issues of faith in the contemporary world, engage Sunday’s sermon to unearth real-world application, and consider biblically and doctrinally based answers to deep questions of faith. Some studies are lecture-based while others are lay-led and more informal. All of our classes promote open discussion, friendship, and growth. There’s something for adults of every age!

Adult Weekday Studies

The Adult Discipleship ministry offers weekday Bible and discipleship classes, a reoccurring faith and film series, and various book studies designed to provide a fresh injection of God’s Word throughout the week. Led by Northside’s Director of Adult Discipleship, James Johnson, classes marry a wealth of knowledge with laid-back discussions on faith, theology, and biblical truths.

Children’s Choirs

Children’s Choir is a community where Northside’s youngest members come together in fellowship to worship in song and learn about Christ’s love. We offer a blend of worship education and musical training in an environment that encourages spiritual growth.

Children’s Handbells

The Children’s Handbell choir teaches basic music reading, performance, and teamwork skills through fun activities. Participants ring in Traditional worship approximately four times a year, including the Hanging of the Greens service in December and the Children’s Musical in the Spring. Our class size is small to allow for the best learning environment, so space is limited. This program is for Grades 3-5.

Children’s Sunday Mornings

It is our privilege to help children experience God’s love on their level. We seek to offer biblically based, engaging, and age-appropriate programming for your children 6 weeks old through 5th grade on Sunday mornings.

Church-Wide Fellowship

At Northside, we believe fellowship is not only important, but necessary. We have a number of events throughout the year that are meant for the whole family—most importantly, Wednesday Night Dinner. We also have an annual family mission project in the spring (Spring MAP) and our signature community event, the Picnic, in August.

Confirmation is a yearlong commitment, which includes a spring retreat, for 7th grade students seeking to confirm their baptism and join the United Methodist Church. In this Sunday morning class, students learn the traditions and heritage of the church found in the Apostle’s Creed, giving our class the theme IBAC or “I believe in the Apostle’s Creed.”

CrossTrain is a cross-departmental program offered each Wednesday night, where our 3s and 4s can experience engaging music with Music Ministries, high-energy movement alongside Sports & Rec., and a biblically based message from Children’s Ministries.

Dinner Groups

Northside Dinner Groups are designed to bring fun-loving, like-minded people together for the sole purpose of building community. Groups meet once a month for dinner and fellowship, and are open to everyone.

Disaster Response Team

Northside Church now has a disaster response team. Our team serves as needed by taking steps to prevent further damage to homes affected by hurricanes, tornados, floods and other natural disasters. Early Response Team (ERT) training is offered by UMCOR and suggested for team members but not always required to serve–each event has unique requirements. Please contact us for more details. We hope you will join this ongoing mission opportunity to provide a caring presence of the church to survivors as we make repairs and help clean up the destruction.

Disciple Bible Study Program

The journey of a disciple is fraught with mountains and valleys of faith, a long path with many twists and turns. It is not one that should be ventured alone. Indeed, without the encouragement and support of fellow disciples, the journey is impossible. The Disciple Bible study program offered here at Northside provides the perfect atmosphere for forming and developing community along the path to becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ, through an in-depth study of Scripture.

Food Addiction Support Group

There is an FA meeting at Northside! FA is a 12-step program for food addiction, modeled after AA. The treatment is for addiction to food rather than alcohol. This program is different from other weight loss programs in that it is not a diet. It is a healthy way of eating that is sustainable for life, combined with a spiritual solution to the issues that were driving the unhealthy eating. FA has been around for many years and has strong fellowships in many large cities but is only now beginning to take off in Atlanta. If you or someone you know could benefit from this, please come! Drop-ins are welcome.

Missions outreach is an opportunity to serve others, not just around the world, but also right here in the community. Northside is committed to mobilizing support for the homeless, at-risk youth, neighborhood revitalization, and general relief programs, through an array of ministries and projects focused on housing. We partner with local nonprofits, Murphy-Harpst Children’s Centers, Habitat for Humanity, Wellroot Family Services, and Action Ministries.

Mission opportunities at Northside focus on meeting the basic needs of those in the underserved communities of metro Atlanta. One of those basic needs is hunger, and we partner with Buckhead Christian Ministries, Food Security for America, Good Samaritan Health Center, and Action Ministries to support families in need.

Kingdom Journey

Kingdom Journey is a two-year-long Bible study open to all 9th and 10th graders at Northside. Beginning in September, parent(s) and student will study the Bible and meet with the class two Sundays a month for discussion. The course culminates in a trip to the Holy Land.

Men’s Fellowship Events

Several times throughout the year we have large group men’s gatherings designed to foster fellowship and community. Interested in getting involved in Men’s Ministry but not ready to join a small group? These events are a great place to start!

Men’s Small Groups

Looking to connect with fellow men walking a similar path? Men’s Ministry offers daily small groups, Bible studies, and men’s gatherings designed to promote fellowship, strengthen relationships, and equip men with Biblical truths and application to become better fathers, husbands, sons, and disciples.

Metro Atlanta Project (MAP)

The Metro Atlanta Project is a weeklong, student-led, adult-supported annual service project dedicated to serving the community through roofing projects, playground construction, and general home repair for those in desperate need. Founded in 1999, this year saw 5,000 total hours of work on 14 different sites and 125 students building community through daily worship and self-sacrifice.

Periodically we have one day MAP service projects. Our most recent one was a food packing party that our whole church family could participate in—even our youngest children.

Mission Trips

In the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus we are told to go out into the world to and make disciples of all nations. Northside offers mission trips domestically and internationally. We also support global missionaries serving The Bahamas, Hungary, Nicaragua and the Ukraine. Domestic mission trips include Appalachia Service Project (ASP.)

Northside Methodist Preschool

Northside Methodist Preschool has a loving and qualified staff of 48 who provide child-centered, hands-on learning for 250 students, ages 18 months to 5 years old. Artwork from our budding artists fills our hallways; the colorful and inviting library has over 4,000 titles; our music and movement programs encourage preschoolers to stretch their bodies as well as their imaginations; and students attend an interactive weekly chapel program to know God’s grace and love. Come join the NMP family!
