Northside is a growing, 5,000+ member congregation in the Buckhead community of Atlanta, Georgia. We are seeking a full-time Director of Children’s Ministry. Compensation and benefits are highly competitive.
Objective
The Director of Children’s Ministry helps set the mission and vision of Children’s Ministry at Northside. This person oversees the department and team in service to our birth through elementary-aged children. This person will be a strong leader and team player, be grounded in United Methodist theology, and be a positive reflection of God’s love. They are responsible for planning and executing the vision of the Children’s Ministry Department while leading children in faithful discipleship.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees the vision and mission of Children’s Ministry.
Oversee the Children’s Ministry Department and shall be the direct supervisor of those on the Children’s Ministry team, including: the Associate Director of Children’s, who oversees the Sunday supervisor and nursery needs by working with the Director of Childcare; the Children’s Ministry Associate and the Administrative Assistant of the department.
Manage the budget of the department, be fiscally responsible, and assess future budget needs.
Calendars, plans, executes programming and offerings for children birth through fifth grade including: Sunday school, special events like Fall Festival, Easter Eggstravaganza, Christmas Eve family services, Family Ash Wednesday service, VBS, and Milestones.
Oversees and develops the biblical, theological, and spiritual development of children through programming, resourcing, and worship.
Serves as liaison with larger church staff to help implement the church’s mission, especially with the Children's Ministry Team, and by participating in Senior Pastor and Director meetings and events, as well other assigned responsibilities. Also collaborates with other departments like CDC and NMP on programming, pastoral care, and space.
Advocates for children and families in Sunday morning worship. Provides feedback and insight on how to best to engage children and families.
Selects, edits, and amends curriculum for the Children’s Ministry department. With a primary of focus of elementary classrooms.
Organizes and develops Sunday morning programming and leads and teaches when and where appropriate. Ensures overall success of Sunday morning programming including resourcing and equipping volunteers to teach well.
Assists Children’s Ministry staff with preparation and implementation for any special or seasonal events.
Communicates with parents regularly and organizes a Parent Council.
Informs Senior Pastor and Pastoral Care of known family needs.
Partners with the Children’s Ministry team to recruit volunteers, and to ensure they are sufficiently resourced and thanked.
Collaborates with the Children’s Ministry team to ensure that Wednesday Night Dinner activities and programming for Children’s Ministry is appropriately coordinated and covered. Ensures church wide guidelines are being implemented and followed. The Director will also serve as a mediator between children, parents, and caregivers when discipline, health, or safety issues arise in coordination with the Associate Director.
Advocates for children & children's issues to the staff and congregation with the objective of making the children more visible and involved with the overall vision of Northside Church.
Partners with Facilities and the Children’s Ministries team to ensure physical areas are clean, safe, and up to date.
Assists in maintaining Northside Church, specifically the Children’s Ministry internal and external area, as well as monitoring facility use and damage, needs for replacement, safety, and cleanliness.
Performs other related tasks as requested by the Associate Pastor of Worship, Executive Director or Senior Pastor.
Knowledge
Knowledge of the United Methodist Church beliefs, doctrines, discipline, traditions, and social principles
Knowledge of the culture and values of Northside Church, articulates and supports its mission and direction; and demonstrates through words and actions the love of God
Demonstrates through words and actions the love of God Expert knowledge of Biblical interpretation, child development (and faith development) and religious educational theory and practice.
Knowledge of the UMC’s Safe Sanctuary guidelines

Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and volunteers
Effective leader who is excellent at recruiting, organizing, and empowering volunteers to make an internal impact in the lives of children
Excellent people and communication skills are required. This includes being comfortable with appropriate discipline when warranted.
Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills who can interface with ministers, staff, volunteers, and lay leadership
Efficient with smartphones, tablets, computers, & Microsoft Office for reporting daily progress
Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including, Outlook and Access
Ministry minded with a commitment to the church and the success of ministry endeavors
Must have a current driver’s license
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education, Education or related field and;
Five or more years of Children’s Ministry experience
or; combination of education and experience commensurate with the minimum requirements of this position
