Associate Director of Childcare & Curriculum

Full-Time Exempt Child Development Center (CDC) Hours

Job Description

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold center and ministry standards and set the example by consistently modeling professional leadership, management and instructional skills while interacting with others.

  • Assist and support the Director in the oversight and overall management the Child Development Center while upholding a faith-based mission.

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum and educational programming for all age groups (infants through pre-K).

  • Ensure curriculum meets local/state/federal standards and aligns with accreditation requirements.

  • Support, mentor, and coach teaching staff on lesson planning, assessment practices, and classroom management.

  • Assist with organizing and leading professional development opportunities for educators.

  • Collaborate with families and staff to support individualized learning plans and developmental goals.

  • Comprehends and implements all Bright from the Start rules and regulations.

  • Manages all CDC enrollees’ files include but not limited to immunization records, registration forms, release waivers according to state requirements.

  • Assists with teacher schedules, contracted labor, staff care, Wednesday Night Suppers, Sunday mornings, Easter and Christmas Eve.

  • Conduct prospective parent tours.

  • Assist with teacher training, hiring process, and retention process.

  • Assist with the development of teaching team professional development goals.

  • Serves as person in charge in the absence of the Director of Childcare.

  • Supports the vision, direction, and mission of Northside UMC, Children’s Ministry and the CDC through Administrative and Programmatic support

  • All other duties outlined by Director of Childcare. 

 

Qualifications

  • Proven experience and success as an Assistant Director

  • Knowledge of the requirements of BFTS drop in inspections

  • Strong leadership skills – ability to successfully manage a team

  • Minimum 3 years in leadership role, and 5 years in classroom in a licensed childcare center

  • Strong personal Christian faith and commitment to serving in a ministry environment

  • Excellent leadership, problem solving, supervisory, conflict management and communication skills

  • Knowledge of BFTS Childcare Center licensing requirements

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Communication, Business, or Psychology

  • Supervisory experience, preferably in an early learning environment

  • Combination of education and experience commensurate with the minimum requirements of this position

  • Early learning curriculum knowledge strongly preferred

Director of Children’s Ministry

Northside is a growing, 5,000+ member congregation in the Buckhead community of Atlanta, Georgia. We are seeking a full-time Director of Children’s Ministry. Compensation and benefits are highly competitive. 

Objective

The Director of Children’s Ministry helps set the mission and vision of Children’s Ministry at Northside. This person oversees the department and team in service to our birth through elementary-aged children. This person will be a strong leader and team player, be grounded in United Methodist theology, and be a positive reflection of God’s love. They are responsible for planning and executing the vision of the Children’s Ministry Department while leading children in faithful discipleship.

The ideal Director of Children’s Ministry will:

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees the vision and mission of Children’s Ministry.

Oversee the Children’s Ministry Department and shall be the direct supervisor of those on the Children’s Ministry team, including: the Associate Director of Children’s, who oversees the Sunday supervisor and nursery needs by working with the Director of Childcare; the Children’s Ministry Associate and the Administrative Assistant of the department.

Manage the budget of the department, be fiscally responsible, and assess future budget needs.

Calendars, plans, executes programming and offerings for children birth through fifth grade including: Sunday school, special events like Fall Festival, Easter Eggstravaganza, Christmas Eve family services, Family Ash Wednesday service, VBS, and Milestones. 

Oversees and develops the biblical, theological, and spiritual development of children through programming, resourcing, and worship.

Serves as liaison with larger church staff to help implement the church’s mission, especially with the Children's Ministry Team, and by participating in Senior Pastor and Director meetings and events, as well other assigned responsibilities. Also collaborates with other departments like CDC and NMP on programming, pastoral care, and space.

Advocates for children and families in Sunday morning worship. Provides feedback and insight on how to best to engage children and families.

Selects, edits, and amends curriculum for the Children’s Ministry department. With a primary of focus of elementary classrooms.

Organizes and develops Sunday morning programming and leads and teaches when and where appropriate. Ensures overall success of Sunday morning programming including resourcing and equipping volunteers to teach well.

Assists Children’s Ministry staff with preparation and implementation for any special or seasonal events.

Communicates with parents regularly and organizes a Parent Council.

Informs Senior Pastor and Pastoral Care of known family needs.

Partners with the Children’s Ministry team to recruit volunteers, and to ensure they are sufficiently resourced and thanked.

Collaborates with the Children’s Ministry team to ensure that Wednesday Night Dinner activities and programming for Children’s Ministry is appropriately coordinated and covered.  Ensures church wide guidelines are being implemented and followed. The Director will also serve as a mediator between children, parents, and caregivers when discipline, health, or safety issues arise in coordination with the Associate Director.

Advocates for children & children's issues to the staff and congregation with the objective of making the children more visible and involved with the overall vision of Northside Church.

Partners with Facilities and the Children’s Ministries team to ensure physical areas are clean, safe, and up to date.

Assists in maintaining Northside Church, specifically the Children’s Ministry internal and external area, as well as monitoring facility use and damage, needs for replacement, safety, and cleanliness. 

Performs other related tasks as requested by the Associate Pastor of Worship, Executive Director or Senior Pastor.

 
Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the United Methodist Church beliefs, doctrines, discipline, traditions, and social principles

  • Knowledge of the culture and values of Northside Church, articulates and supports its mission and direction; and demonstrates through words and actions the love of God

  • Demonstrates through words and actions the love of God Expert knowledge of Biblical interpretation, child development (and faith development) and religious educational theory and practice.

  • Knowledge of the UMC’s Safe Sanctuary guidelines

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Has a strong and growing faith in Jesus Christ, and a commitment to sharing their faith with others

  • Ministry-minded with a commitment to the church and its growth

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and volunteers

  • Effective leader who is excellent at recruiting, organizing, and empowering volunteers to make an internal impact in the lives of children

  • Excellent people and communication skills are required. This includes being comfortable with appropriate discipline when warranted.

  • Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills who can interface with ministers, staff, volunteers, and lay leadership

  • Efficient with smartphones, tablets, computers, & Microsoft Office for reporting daily progress

  • Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including, Outlook and Access

  • Ministry minded with a commitment to the church and the success of ministry endeavors

  • Must have a current driver’s license

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education, Education or related field and;

  • Five or more years of Children’s Ministry experience

  • or; combination of education and experience commensurate with the minimum requirements of this position

Student Ministry Associate

Full-Time Student Ministry 40 Hours

Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000 per year (Plus benefits including health and dental)

Do you enjoy planning and implementing fun, attractional events such as Silent Discos, Color Powder Wars, and Rage Rooms? Do you have a heart for seeing young people grow deeply in their walk with Jesus through Christ-centered discipleship? Have you ever been told you give camp counselor vibes? Then we have the perfect job for you! The Northside Student Ministries department is looking for a full-time Student Ministry Associate to invest relationally in the spiritual lives of our middle and high school students!

Responsibilities:

Develop connections with all of our middle and high school students.

Plan and implement a variety of different attractional events and activities to draw in students who would not typically attend a church setting.

Build relationships with students encouraging them to join a small group and go deeper in their walk with Jesus.

Attend ball games, performances, and other extracurricular events to build relationships with students.

Text students reminders about various events and invite them to participate.

Lead weekly Bible studies to help students go deeper in their walk with Jesus.

Assist with the execution and implementation of Northside Student Ministries Retreats.

Run Student Ministries social media account, incorporating various trends to build engagement.

Occasionally deliver messages for the youth on Sunday nights.

Lead weekly games to build an atmosphere of trust and fun at Sunday Night Youth Group.

Execute administrative and organizational tasks related to the implementation of the broader vision of the youth group.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

College Degree.

Ability to Manage and work with a Youth Ministry Staff and a team of volunteers among a large church staff.

Experience working in a youth ministry or camp counsellor setting.

Ability to communicate effectively and clearly to multiple groups.

Proficiency in creating a social media strategy to engage and inform through weekly reels, stories, and posts.

Desire to develop ministry skills such as Bible teaching, public speaking, Christian leadership, and small group facilitation.

Fun and high energy spirit.

Ability to lead worship is a major plus.

Student Ministry Logistics Assistant

Part-Time 15 - 25 hours a week 

Pay: $22/hr 

General Description: 

Are you a parent with experience organizing a large birthday party? Have you helped with communication and implementation of a school fundraiser? Do you want to have an eternal impact on the lives of middle and high school students in Northwest Atlanta? Are you highly organized and skilled at communication and logistics? If so, then we have the perfect job for you! The Northside Student Ministries department is looking for some part-time Logistics and Communication help! 

Responsibilities: 

Perform a broad range of administrative and organizational tasks. 

Make cold calls/texts to recruit students, parents, and volunteers to help with or attend programming. 

Oversee logistics for various retreats and special events each semester. 

Implement a strategy for a smooth check-in process at all special events including sign-in and medication check-in. 

Coordinate registrations and transportation for off-campus events and retreats. 

Order and organize physical supplies for various student ministry events. 

Maintain an organized document of all parents and volunteers who have expressed interest in helping with youth programming. 

Coordinate with Sunday School Teachers to ensure they will be present for the week and have the necessary materials to teach. 

Create and implement a communication strategy to promote all Northside Student’s programming. 

Collaborate with creative services to collect all the necessary information for the senior pictorial. 

Ability to move to identify the logistics necessary to move an idea from the concept stage to implementation. 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills: 

Communicates effectively with parents, youth, and volunteers. 

Office and Admin skills (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pro Presenter, Planning 

Center, Canva, ACS, Outlook) 

Ability to Manage and work with a Youth Ministry Staff and a large team of 

volunteers among a large church staff. 

Ability to communicate effectively and clearly to multiple groups. 

A keen eye for risk management. 

Strong organizational skills.
