Kitchen Use Guidelines
Implemented on November 13, 2024
The Watson Faith & Arts Kitchen (a.k.a. the New Kitchen) is used to prepare food for public consumption. Care must be taken to keep it clean, organized, and in good functioning order. To meet these objectives, we are implementing the following guidelines:
ACCESS:
a. The kitchen will remain closed.
b. Only staff with keys will be permitted in the kitchen.
c. On days when leftovers are offered, the kitchen will remain open for 2 hours from the time the leftovers are served.
d. If you need to speak with one of the chefs or Claudia, you may call extension #1131 to speak with the Hospitality Manager, Claudia Bihr, or one of the chefs.
e. Outside vendors or groups who need access should check in with the receptionist at the reception desk, or by calling extension #1002.
USE OF THE KITCHEN:
a. If you need to borrow utensils or any kitchen items, you must return items clean and to the place where you found them.
b. If a ministry needs to use the kitchen facilities, the director, or ministry leader. is responsible for seeing that everything is left clean, and in the proper order in which it was found.
c. If the kitchen is left dirty, the Hospitality Manager will have the discretion to hire a contractor to clean it, and the cost of this cleaning will be charged to your ministry.
d. If any group wishes to use the kitchen, the responsible ministry must submit a request for its use and agree to be held jointly responsible for the use and handling of everything in the kitchen. A form must be completed (see attached) to ensure everything is organized and we have the name and information of a responsible contact person.
e. If you or your ministry leaves items in the kitchen or pantry, these items will automatically become property of the Hospitality Department and may be used by chefs for preparation, packaging, or food storage. Any items intended to be saved for future use must be taken with you and stored elsewhere.
f. After using the kitchen, you must clean it, turn off all lights, and lock all doors.
REFRIGERATORS AND FREEZERS:
If food items are left in the refrigerators or freezers, and the responsible party does not communicate with the kitchen staff about its use, the food will be disposed of appropriately after one week. As with the kitchen itself, all freezers and refrigerators must be left clean after use.
CARTS:
If you or your department need carts, please ask for these when you request kitchen use. Carts will be made available when possible, but must be left clean.
ICE MACHINE:
The ice machine in the Faith and Arts Kitchen is off limits for individual use. Staff may access the ice machine in the Fellowship Hall kitchen for personal or ministry purposes. When getting ice from the machine, care must be taken to use the ice scoop. You should never use your own cups/glasses or hands to scoop the ice.
LAUNDRY:
The Faith and Arts Laundry is for kitchen towels and tablecloths only. If you need to use the laundry, please coordinate in advance with the kitchen staff.
